Big second quarter helps Ohio Valley past Young Harris 13-9

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Ohio Valley University scored six goals in the second quarter as the Fighting Scots took a 13-9 men's lacrosse decision over Young Harris College Friday (March 15) afternoon at the YHC Lacrosse Field.

Ohio Valley improved to 2-2 while the Mountain Lions fell to 4-3. Young Harris next hosts Lees-McRae College in a 3 p.m. match Wednesday (March 20).

Young Harris took a 3-2 lead after the first quarter as Ronnie Adams scored all three goals for the Mountain Lions. The Fighting Scots got back-to-back goals from Stan Mackey and Brandon Buck over a one-minute in the opening moments of the second quarter to take a 4-3 lead with 12:37 left. A Tyler Price goal 59 seconds later tied the match at 4. Mackey gave Ohio Valley the lead for goal at 5-4 with 8:36 remaining, before the Fighting Scots closed out the period with three goals to take an 8-4 lead at the half.

The Mountain Lions scored the opening goal of the third quarter off a strike from Jeff Rivait before Ohio Valley reeled off three unanswered goals to take an 11-5 lead with 9:52 remaining. The closest Young Harris would get would be four goals (12-8) after Ryan Ningard and Joe Appolonia scored back-to-back goals for the Mountain Lions.

Adams led Young Harris with three goals while Ningard and Rivait tallied two each and Price and Appolonia added one apiece.  Nathan Hodgins led the Fighting Scots with four goals while Mackey had three.

Tyler Ross had 14 saves in goal for Ohio Valley, which outshot the Mountain Lions 38-30, while Ryan Pickowitz had 13 for Young Harris.
